After a long few months, we reach the end of our independent project. Although it took a while, the results of the project turned out great. For me, this was a fun project to do because it gave me the chance to work on my photography skills and show why I am passionate about photography. Throughout our work days, I took photos with my macro lens of various objects. This went from jewelry and random objects like dice to pictures of plants/flowers and eyes. In estimate, it was most likely close to 1000 photos that I had taken, although only 15 made it to the end. After I had my photos, I spent a long while looking through all of them and picking the best ones. Afterward, I edited them and then began to lay them all out on my desktop so that I could pick the best ones. Soon, after much consideration, I was down to about 30 photos which ended up being separated again to find the best ones and get down to 15 photos. Finally, after a long, grueling two months, I had finally completed my project. In my opinion, this project was super fun. We had a lot of time to get it finished which really helped and gave me the chance to showcase my hobby in the way I had wanted to showcase it for so long. I learned a lot about how to get better at photography, which will help in the next photography assignment coming up and just any time that I want to take photos outside of school. In conclusion, I believe that this project helped me improve and do something fun, while also still learning and doing schoolwork.

As we reach the halfway point of our Independent project, we have to create a blog and talk about our process thus far. For the first week of my project, I used fairy lights and put them into a circle type shape and then put it around people’s eyes. I took pictures of about 5 people's eyes with the fairy light tactic and later on, I used LED lights and a moon light to take pictures of another person's eyes with red on one side of their face and blue on the other. After I finished with those for that time, I began to take pictures of inanimate objects such as jewelry, rope, sketch books and dice in both light and dark settings. Afterwards, I took pictures of living things like flowers and gourds. Soon, I began to pick my best photos and delete the bad ones. I then transferred them over to one of the computers in the computer lab and started editing in photoshop. I think that I will have to redo some of my favourite photo ideas though to make sure that I get my idea perfectly displayed into physical form. As of now, I am working on taking photos of other types of plants and these cool glass figurines that I own. Some of my feelings on my work right now is confidence and happiness because I think that I actually have some really good ones that I love. I am excited to keep moving forward with this project and be able to display my best work in the weeks to come. As the first part of the independent project is starting, people are scheming and planning their ideas for it. For my own independent project, I want to do macro photos, so close-up photos of objects and people. For example, I would like to get close ups of flowers like roses, close-ups of people's eyes or other facial features, plants, and other small intricate objects.
For the theme, depending on the subject and the way I perceive them, the themes will be different. For example, with eyes and other facial features, they will be dark with the subject in light to put emphasis on it but for something like flowers or other plants, the surroundings will be bright and lively. For timeline, I haven’t quite decided on everything but I’d like to shoot the pictures of facial features first because I feel like those will be the hardest to get right and up to my standard. Aswell, many of the people that have said they would model or I have asked also need to do projects so I don’t want to hold them up for too long. After that I want to do shoots for the plant and flowers as a bit of a more simple photo but also because if I have something like store bought flowers, they might die soon after I would be done with them. Lastly, I will take photos of small inanimate objects because they can be shot at anytime unlike people and plants. I may switch around my plants and person one if we end up buying flowers at the very start. This has been something I was thinking about for a while so I am excited to be starting it. I’d like to use interesting ideas like using fairy lights to put around someone’s eye to really focus in on them or maybe use something like glitter or stickers, which I all have at home. Here are some examples/ideas: As we continue into the New Year, it's important to make or continue goals. Whether already existing or new, goals are all important because they give hope, order, and inspiration. As mentioned in my last goal blog, I am not very good at keeping my goals. For the ones that I set last semester, one was fulfilled and one was not. These two goals were to improve on all my art forms, especially painting and drawing. I believe that I did improve, although not as much as I wanted to. My other goal was to finish my story which didn’t end up happening. This time, I set more reasonable goals.
For this year, my E.L.A goal is to get a 90-93% overall score by the end of the second semester. I think this is important because I think that it is important to get high grades. it will help me better understand everything when I go into the grade 11 courses for E.L.A. To get there, I will need to work extra hard on all of the assignments that my E.L.A. teacher gives me and makes sure to review each and every assignment before turning it in. I will know that it’s complete when I look at PowerSchool at the end of the semester and see what percentage I have. Something that I can do is ask my parents or friends to review my work to further improve it. This is a worthwhile goal because it’ll help me in my next grade and it’s always good to have your grades high and have a strong understanding of content and skills. My second goal is for VAM. This goal is to get a 75-80% on the independent project that will soon be assigned. My independent project will be done using photography. I believe that this is important because my art mark isn’t as high as I want it to be. I will know when the goal is accomplished when the finished product has been looked over and graded by my teachers. This can all be accomplished by putting a lot of effort into my work and going out to interesting places for photo ideas. I can also get feedback from teachers and other students when editing the photos. Next, this goal seems worthwhile because if it’s accomplished, it will mean that I will achieve a better overall grade in art class. Lastly, my time limit will be from next week, or whenever we start our project, to about 2 months from now. In closing, I am confident that my goals will help me be inspired to get them completed. I will have to put in a lot of effort because the second semester is usually the hardest, but I am sure that I will be able to accomplish it. 1. What were your initial thoughts, feelings, and perspectives - did anything stick to you?
I didn't know much on copyright or copyleft. I thought that it depends on the situation where they apply. Not really anything stuck to me. 2. Are you copyright or copyleft? Why? I am not on any certain side because sometimes using something and then profiting off it solely just for yourself seems selfish. It is also selfish for the copyrighters to withhold everything for themselves because it makes it so different forms of music, art and other things can't develop and go into the future. I'm a bit more on the copyleft side because each time people sue people, it seems overkill and none of the money actually goes to the people they are trying to defend. 3. What is the relationship between media production and media consumption? The relationships seems strained and bad. The media production is withholding everything, making it harder to be creative. The media consumption sometimes takes it too far by taking something and claiming it as their own. 4. To what capacity should visual artists be allowed to use the images of other artists? Explain. I think if they take little bits and pieces its ok, but it would be better if your using a lot of the image then it is better to ask the people holding it if its alright to use it. Whether it's New Year’s goals, random self-improvement, or maybe even a class assignment, goals can come in multiple ways. For example, someone might set a goal to redecorate their house. During that process, there would be smaller goals along the way, whether it's repainting the living room or replacing an old cabinet. These are examples of goals that might be done. Personally, I’m not all that good at keeping up with my goals. Most times, I forget or just become too bored to bother completing them. The goals that are listed and set just might help me with this problem.
My personal goal is to finish a fictional story about abusive relationships by next summer and publish it on some sort of writing website so that others can read it. My smaller goals are to finish about two or three pages each month and to revise it before publishing it anywhere. My end goal is to have at least fifteen pages in total, and hopefully more depending on if I think I finished. My plan to achieve my goal is by working regularly on it, once or twice a week from between and a half an hour to an hour. Although it may be strenuous depending on how much homework I have, I will have to figure out set times during the week where I can work. I have been wanting to finish my story for a while, but constantly pushed it off till another time. By making this goal, I can consistently work on it instead of procrastinating till I’m past my original due date. As of now, my due date is the end of June which means that as long as I work on it consistently, I can surpass my goal of fifteen pages by a mile. Lastly, I will know my goal is complete when I have edited and felt satisfied with my work. For my academy goal, it is to improve on drawing and painting since I’m not skilled at either of them. I feel that this goal is important because due to being in the art academy, being better will help me get better grades and I’ve been wanting to learn to draw and paint for a while. To get to my goal, it would take a lot of work since my artistic skill is at the level where I can only draw stick figures off the top of my head. I can do this by working on my art for projects and assignments. When doing this, I need to try hard during these projects. I can know that this goal is complete when I can get at least an advancing or so on multiple types of art medium projects. Other things I can do to help are learning techniques from class, finding tips online, and asking my artistic friends for help. I feel that this is relevant and worthwhile because it means that I can obtain a new skill, get better marks, and can help me to get good grades in VAM. My deadline is the end of the school year. In closing, I am sure that these goals will help me stay on track for things I want to do and improve my style on both writing and drawing. Although it might be tough at times, I believe that I can achieve these and improve in the process. |
