It’s been about a week since we finished our independent project. Throughout my project my photography became macro photos. For the content of my different types of macro photos, the lighting changed. For images like jewelry, it was darker lighting but for plants, it was bright lighting. This is because in photos, it showed emphasis with the type of lighting that I assigned to it. Something that inspired me to start and continue this project was that some of my family members also do photography, so seeing their photos and how good they are at them inspired me to start this. As well, seeing photography on social media like Instagram and Pinterest inspired me. Some of my techniques going into this project were using different camera angles. I do this by taking photos of jewelry from above but taking pictures of eyes straight on. The purpose of this is to get all the detail that is involved in the object from the most appealing angle possible. As well, I try to effectively place the subjects of my photos in places without busy backgrounds, as to not distract from the main subject. With macro photos, I like to place each type of object in different lighting. Some of the stuff I learned in this project was that I actually really enjoy macro photography but the photos are really hard to take. I also learned that I am fairly good at editing photos, but I still have a lot to learn. As many people do, I have a favourite piece of art. Mine is a picture of my friend’s eye because of the monumental amount of detail that can be seen in the eye, like the fairy lights reflecting in their iris, as well as the lighting and editing being absolutely perfect in my eyes. As a small side note though, there is something that I would have liked to change in my project. I would have rather had more diversity in my photos, because a lot of mine were flower photos and I would have rather had more non-living objects in my photos. There was a lot that surprised me during this journey. One of these things is that I had to meticulously and manually focus the lens to get just the right focus, instead of it auto focusing like regular lenses. As well, all the settings were very touchy. This all made it so that there was a lot of work involved in getting the right focus, lighting, and placement. Lastly, as something that I would like to share about all this to help inspire others, it might seem like so much work to get these types of photos, but it is easy to learn as long as you have the materials and are determined and passionate enough to put in the work. Anyone can get into photography as long as they have passion and determination. Something that I would like to share about my experience is that I wasn’t familiar with any macro shooting but as I worked, in just a few weeks, I got way better.
